Solid Edge is an electrical design and simulation software through which we can make simple electrical circuit all the way till complex wire harness for professional use cases. It is a single stop software having a wide variety of components for instant use without the need to searching the web for each individual item and importing it into the software. However, if the need arises, we can also import the exact component we require.
Each the circuit or harness can be made in a 2D layout or in a 3D layout. The 2D layout shows a simplified version of the intended harness from which we can go to the 3D layout to exactly lay out each component at its precise location and the route the wiring appropriately should follow to fit the dimensions required. This helps us calculate the exact wiring length required. It also provides the option to replicate the circuit on a PCB layout. It has a large built-in library consisting of electrical symbols, components and simulation models which are easy to access and well organized.
It provides a very large workspace to draw your circuit without the usual size constraints present in other software. We can easily add the wires, splices, connector, ring terminals and pins to the components. However, the usability would greatly improve if they could just add a shortcut to draw a wire. The only way to draw multiple wires is to select the wire option in the ribbon each time which is really annoying because during the making of large projects the repeated action of selecting the wire wastes a lot of time.
All the components add into the workspace has its own special name which are neatly organized under the design tab on the left side of the software from where we can easily find the location of the component on the workspace.
Each component added can be heavily customized to the exact requirement by changing the properties of the component. Just for an example, in a DTM connector we can select which individual pins are actually being used and add only those pins. We can evenly space the pins to provide a gap between each connections to avoid a clatter. We can also change the gauge and thickness of each wire.
